It has been my intent to feature a firefighter every month, in this spot, but I have been lacking in drive and intent lately.  So this month I have decided to get started.

 

My first firefighter would have to be the department chief.  Douglas Churchill has been on the department for 16 years.  He has seen a lot of changes in the department over the years, both good and bad.  He has mentioned more that once that his current department crew is one of the best at working together both at a fire scene and at the department.

 

He started out as a regular grunt and worked his way up to pumper operator.  He tried air pacs, but they didn't agree with him.  He has held the positions of Lt. and Capt. and is currently Chief.  He has also held the position of Safely Officer, Assistant Fire Warden and is currently Fire Warden.

 

He Would like to see the department train more as a unit, but understands that this time of year it is hard to find the extra time to get to the fire station. 

 

Douglas enjoys fishing and hunting in his free time, but also likes helping out a friend when called.
